two weeks in one

paela doing a bit of shoppingThe past couple of weeks have flown by...it hardly feels like we missed a week with our regular program of updates. You'd think we'd have some pictures to show for it, wouldn't you? So we had to take one today.  read more »

Cat Sabbath

Using the cat as a pillow

Rebecca blames me that her weeks to write the weekly letter never have anything interesting or photos, but I do. This week is no exception.

Today we are instituting a cat sabbath. Paela has been very affectionate to the cat all week. She has learned to climb up onto the couch by herself so she can get to the cat and jump on her. And Paela has learned that the cat makes a nice pillow, until the cat fights back. Which she has, several times this week. We're trying to teach both Star and Paela to have boundaries, but in the meantime, we have decided that a cat sabbath is well needed.  read more »

anti-superbowl parties and kissing cousins

Wayne's been getting back into the swing of the school year. He's had classes and meeting and readings, just like the good ole days. He'll have to figure out what to do about school when we move to Boston. In the meantime he became an international artist with this group show in Berlin.  read more »

What year is it?

We reorganized our DVD collection into one case which condenses things down to about 1/6th the space. We went to the park a few days, but mostly it rained this week. It is difficult to go down a slide when it is wet and had a big puddle at the bottom. We tried to find locations in our area which have indoor play spaces and were horrified to learn that this is the primary reason parents get sucked into taking their children (and feeding them) at McDonald's. Paela chose to be awake from 8am to 8pm a few times this week, but has returned to her normal schedule of 7-7 [mostly due to us encouraging her to...otherwise Sunday naps before Church would be nearly impossible because she wouldn't be tired yet].  read more »

an earful

bubbles 004It was quite a busy week last week, in case it isn't obvious from our late update. What with (another) trip to Boston with flight details being settled just the day before, and our friends Jon and Faith coming down for a visit.  read more »

roses are red

We started the week off by sending me to Boston again, but luckily this time it wasn't the fall so I'm not in violation of any Veggie Tales songs. This was an interview with another company, for a position doing more natural language processing kinds of work, which would be cool. I liked the people I met a lot. Hopefully we'll hear something soon, and in the meantime we're back to normal.

I enjoyed seeing Wayne's sister, Camilla, and Victor again. They took me to a yummy sandwich place and an ice cream place and showed off Cambridge. So much fun.

Wayne and Paela had a good time playing in bookstores; she does love her bookstores. Though unfortunately she developed a fever the day I left and was fussy most of the time I was gone. At least the bookstores kept her content.  read more »

A cat to return to

Paela in the snow.jpgA chronology.

Travelling with Paela can sometimes be easy and sometimes be an experiment on boundaries of social space. While we are able to arrange ourselves to a position in which she won't kick anyone sitting next to us on the plane, trying to restrain her from offering half-eaten crackers to her neighbor is a bit more of a challenge.  read more »

Sinuses

We prepared during the first half of the week.

Early in the week, I tied up the last loose ends at school, and here's to hoping that next semester will be the last. Even now the weight and pressure of job hunting rests on my mind as painfully as my sinuses. But this is what the holiday break is for.

After packing on Tuesday, we spent most of Wednesday in airplanes. Thankfully, Paela was a little angel during both legs of the trip. She even became friends with the college student sitting next to her for the 5 hour leg, constantly offering him slobber-covered toys and half eaten crackers. While I anticipated a melt-down due to the lack of mobility, Paela was a trooper for the trip even though she was only able to walk around the crowded plane for a bit near the end of the trip due to turbulence during most of the trip.  read more »

and i've never been to boston in the fall

Okay, so maybe this is still fall. But I like to think it is winter so I can tell the truth when I sing along with Larry the cucumber and his silly, silly songs.

This week, I left Wayne and Paela to their own devices and hopped a plane to Boston for a job interview. They survived the two days I was gone, and so did I.  read more »
