new york and back again

Whew. Lots to tell, lots to tell. Let's try starting with New York.

We got an early flight out of SLC, carpooling with the other girl, LaReina, who was attending the conference with me. It was hard to sleep on the plane, and hard to concentrate on the papers I brought along to grade, but I had a good book with me that helped pass the time. Wayne thought the flight took forever though (he didn't bring a book!).  read more »

Getting ready for New York

Computers die. In this case, we had two computers die on us. All of our computers. Luckily they weren't catastrophic problems and thanks to newegg.com, we were able to get our machines back up and running quickly with new power supplies. Rebecca had a lot of research and presentations to plan, so having computers die wasn't a good idea.  read more »

papers, presenting, and the flu

Papers, a presentation, and the stomach flu. That’s what our week consisted of.

Wayne had a couple of tough papers to work on all week, one for his Psychology class and one for his Art History class. Fortunately the Art History paper was just a rough draft, and the Psychology paper was just a 2-pager. The hardest thing was finding a relevant paper to write about!  read more »

On acceptances and rejections

Graduate schools have begun to contact me. Of the seven I have applied to, three have already responded. CMU and UIUC sent a simple rejection letter. Rebecca was frustrated because a CD we sent with the slides burned incorrectly and didn't have the video presentation I made on it. And the whole reason we made CDs to send to schools was so that CMU would get one. I guess it's not the end of the world that I didn't get into UIUC, but CMU was my dream school. I wasn't upset because I didn't get into the school, but I was upset about not being admitted to UIUC. Isn't that odd?  read more »

what do you get when you juggle bananas?

Well, it's official. We bought our plane tickets to NYC last week. Well, we bought Wayne's and BYU bought mine. So at the end of March we'll make our own spring break and take off to see the proverbial apple. [Some people get spring breaks...we have to make ours! -wayne] Any suggestions on what we should make sure to see and do while we're there?  read more »

as much fun as a barrel of monkeys

So I tried using my sewing machine to hem some of Wayne's pants (mental note, he's not length 34...if we get jeans that long I'll have to mend them as well!  read more »

I guess it was about groundhog day this week

Most everything we did had to do with that 22 pound rat. That 120 year old 22 pound rat. But Rebecca doubts the validity of Punxsutawney Phil's age. Whatever. If a big fat squirrel can predict the weather, why can't he be over a hundred years old? ;)  read more »

don't forget your booties because it's COLD out there!

Wayne's highlight of the week was beating his friends senseless for the sake of art. Between that and the huge bruise he got in racquetball, how could his week get any better?  read more »

The beginning of the end

We believe it is a good sign about this semester that we have been able to play games most every night this week as well as sleeping in a little bit on some mornings. That is a good start. However, this semester is going to be one of our last here at BYU (as far as we can tell at this point), which means finishing off MFA applications as well as applying for graduation here. We took very close care of my CMU application and now we have to wait until April or May to hear back from any of the schools on the list that I applied for. So, now it's the waiting game.  read more »
