...

We like having visitors. Especially since we are living on the other side of the continent from all our family. So we were happy this week to visit with Rebecca's father who came out for a class that his employer offered to pay for. The visit, however, could not have come at a worse time for me. I was rarely home before 8:30 (or 9:30...) this week.  read more »

fleas, campus, and sunset

Well. We went to campus a lot this week; not just Wayne, but I did as well. I would go home, grab some food and a picnic basket, grab a book or the laptop, and run meet him in his studio so he could keep painting in the evening. We did this several nights, and made a trip Saturday afternoon/evening as well. He has a show to put up this Friday and is trying to finish up the large painting that is in progress right now. I think he'll be done in time, but we'll see what this week holds. [I think that I'm finally feeling like I'm in a Masters program. -wayne]  read more »

Halloween

Rebecca and I need to learn a few things about throwing parties. First thing: we should invite more people. Not that having two people come over for a 'party' isn't fun - we had fun for our "Halloween Party," but I feel a bit guilty calling it a party when there are only four of us.  read more »

car trips do a person good

I'm late writing this, I know, but it always takes a bit to adjust to normal life after a long car trip. And then there was Halloween. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Last week was our annual trip to the Oregon coast. I used my first PTO day, and we left Thursday night right after work/school. From our place to Florence is only a ten hour drive -- not too shabby -- but we thought since it is such a short trip and we would beat Jon and Faith there either way, we would split the trip up in half. So we planned on camping at the halfway point, which, conveniently enough, was around the Mount Shasta area and there were plenty of campgrounds to choose from.  read more »

The long drive to Berkeley

The last time I remember being deeply impacted by an artist was my freshman year in high school when I haphazardly came across a book on Basquiat in the Border's art book section. I bought it on the spot. I have been impressed by some other artists along the way (Goldsworthy, Friedman, Turrell, Haring, etc) but none with the same influence of Cory Arcangel.  read more »

candy candy candy

We tried another farmer's market yesterday, and this one was a winner (at least for our needs). Wayne was so funny...he was like a kid in a candy store [in a candy store that has everything for a cheaper price than the normal stores! - wayne]!  read more »

FYI: we had a really un-interesting week.

For example, Monday we ran errands. And I can't tell you what those errands were. Other than we were at Target and they were having a good sale on kitty litter, so we picked up about 60+ pounds of the stuff. That's how exciting the start of our week was. And it only went up from there.  read more »

bicenten-email

This is our 200th post on our blog! So to celebrate, we turned on our heater. It's not that cold here actually: highs in the seventies, lows in the fifties. We're just being wimps at the moment. We'll probably turn it off after only a few minutes.

We watched more hours of television this week than usual. Eight hours (or in Wayne's case, ten) this weekend alone! I suppose it wasn't technically television, I suppose, since we don't get conference on TV here in CA. But radio is closer to television than we usually get! Well, except for the occassional movies....  read more »

hot tubs are nice

Well, we finally picked a health insurance plan. My company offered a few different options, and it was a headache to try and figure out the difference between HMOs and PPOs, and decide which we wanted. Fortunately if we don't like what we picked, we can switch in December. So let's hurry up and get sick so we can figure out if we like our insurance!  read more »
