christmas time christmas time

The girls enjoyed Christmas at their grandparent's house, but this might be the last Christmas we travel. We left Boston before a major blizzard hit, dumping close to two feet of snow. Lucky for us, we were safe before that hit. The night we left, a miracle happened: Aderyn slept through the night for the first time in her life. Of course, we had to leave at 4am, so we messed that up. [hopefully she didn't take that message the wrong way! -reb]

But there was snow here, as well. We took the girls sledding, but neither really wanted to go more than twice. So I ended up doing most of the sledding alone. I think it was the cold weather that wore them down, because I know that Paela loves rollercoasters... so... We also visited an indoor playground that excited and delighted both. Indoor playgrounds are pretty awesome.

The weather has been mostly cold with enough snow to make a snowman. Paela was fascinated by walking on the frozen pond, but Aderyn was more tentative. ["I have a secret from Daddy. I will tell him next Christmas. I like snow." -Paela]

We tried to catch all the foods we can't get at home. I should note that we CAN get good food in the Boston area, it just takes a LONG time to travel through the horrible traffic to get to a decent restaurant. [and Aderyn hates, hates, hates riding in the car. Still. -bec] So we made use of an abundance of restaurants and grabbed our favorites.

One of the nicest perks of staying with family is that we can finally get some babysitters our girls trust. We went to the temple one night and stayed out way too late with friends on another night.

My parents helped Paela watch too much TV. She watched football with them. ["What color has the ball now?" -Paela] She watched Shaun the Sheep (and I tried to convert her to loving it). She watched her first 'princess' movie and loved Cinderella, even though some parts made her anxious. She tells us she likes Cinderella better than Wall-e.

Amazingly, Aderyn has been sleeping better now. She still doesn't sleep through the night, but her wake periods are much shorter and less frequent. During this trip, Aderyn learned to put pegs in the pegboard toy. We've been successful at teaching her to pet the kitty nicer, but that might just be how she interacts with her grandparents' cats. We'll see what she does at our house. Aderyn has also learned where her tongue is -- and sticks it out when you ask her to -- and where daddy's nose is. Sleep does a baby good. [not to mention the rest of us! -bec]
