whirling swirling snowstorm

It's snowing outside. Has been most of the night and into the day. They canceled Church, and we're all cozied up today. We watched a bit of the Church library's scripture stories on DVD this morning, and sang some Christmas songs. And felt the snow, though Paela insisted she needed mittens to touch it (who can blame her?).

This week, I was impressed with how much we actually got out of the house -- though Paela would have loved getting out even more. It was so cold, and juggling a toddler and a baby is a tricky thing even with two adults (of course, if I could still carry Paela when she gets tired or too slow, it might be a bit easier...three more weeks to go). We made it to two different library story times. Though one was a puppet show, and Paela only made it through the first 5-10 minutes. She kept asking me "where's my story time?" and looking at me blankly when I pointed at the puppets she had been watching. Ah well. We excused ourselves and played with the library's legos instead.

Wednesday we also went to the zoo's Christmas light display. Paela loved it, though the rest of us felt it left something to be desired. She was enamored with the lights, and the animals, and the santas on display. The train was terribly fun to watch, she kept talking about her mittens and hats. Aderyn slept in the moby the entire time. And continued sleeping even when we took her out.

We went to the Trinity Church in Boston to see the Candlelight Carols service. Well, some of us got to see it. Or hear it, since we got some of the last available seats. Wayne chased Paela downstairs instead (note to future selves: just because a toddler behaves "well" in an LDS service, doesn't mean she she behaves well for an Episcopalian service. There are different expectations of children in different churches, and I was asked to keep her out of the way.). I think Paela enjoyed the bus ride to and from the church more than the actual service.

And we decorated cookies this week. I think Paela ate more than she decorated, but we ended up with more cookies than we know what to do with. And that was with a third of a batch of cookies! Of course, we did three kinds of cookies, so I suppose we should have expected that.

Wayne finished teaching his last class of the semester, and now we'll just keep busy with Christmas and getting more applications out the door. Until next semester, of course.
