you're still here!

That was what I heard all week long at work, and then at Church today too, after the tale of our night in the hospital -- "You're still here!" What, no one else's doctor has ever kept them in the hospital all night before without having a baby to show at the end? Ah, well, maybe next time!

Though having a false alarm result in an overnight visit has had the (probably) unintended side effect that I'm less likely to want to call the doctor. And I wasn't exactly overjoyed to call the first time around...Wayne had to make me call. I've had a couple of other nights this week with the same kind of contractions (read, the not terribly intense kind that you can still talk through) every five minutes again, but not wanting to spend the night in the hospital I waited it out. And both times they slowed down 6-8 hours later, close to morning time.

Anyway, moving on.

With the rest of our week we drank lots and lots of water (to try and avoid another pointless hospital visit), visited the aquarium, visited the zoo, had some friends over, and stuck one of Wayne's painting in a local art show just for kicks. (Why not? We have them, after all. Kicks and paintings both.)

Paela, of course, loved having friends over and the zoo and the aquarium. She took a bit to warm up to Peter and Cami's kids, but before they left she was following their oldest around and talking up a storm. She talked about having friends over all day long. At the zoo, she was a big fan of the monkeys, where Wayne was a troublemaker. Who doesn't like making trouble once in awhile? At the aquarium, the seals and the shark and turtles were her favorites. I think the scuba diver made her nervous, especially when he waved at her. And the poor sea lion was sick. Now Paela is sick, but I'm pretty sure it's unrelated. Thanks to Camilla and her library, we got to see the aquarium with her and Cameron, and get in for free, saving us a whopping $62! Crazy! Yay for free museum passes.

And that was our week. By next week I'm sure we'll have more exciting news and more productive hospital trips to report on. Let's all hope Paela gets better soon and that Wayne escapes her cold, because it would be a crying shame if they aren't allowed to visit in the hospital! Silly H1N1 hospital regulations....
