we're here!

This week the basement was complete enough that we could finally unpack the rest of our boxes (mostly) and get moved in officially. Officially enough that we even threw a small party Saturday night celebrating that we're here. There are a couple of things the landlord is finishing up still (updating the basement windows, caulking our bathtub, replacing the fan in the kitchen), but mostly we're here. And it couldn't be soon enough.

We found a local butcher that makes some pretty tasty brats, cooked up some burgers, made a cake, and had Camilla and Victor and a few friends (old and new) over to celebrate. Paela was a bit nervous by the "invasion" at first, but eventually warmed up. We tossed a frisbee around a bit and played a couple of games, but mostly just enjoyed having company over. Ah, it had been too long.

Our secondary occupation this week has been trying to kill as many spiders as possible. They had previously occupied the basement (which hadn't really been even cleaned before the renovations). We kicked them out, but they are having trouble buying it. They keep trying to come back in and reclaim their space. We'll just have to be persistent knocking down web after web from the rafters of the unfinished half of the basement, and keeping our furniture well dusted in the finished half.

We've also been putting together plans to build our own bean-bag couch thing. Sort of like a "lovesac", but longer and homemade instead of costing hundreds of dollars. Wish us luck in choosing the right fabric and design.

And finally Paela is sleeping in more! Most days she wakes up between 6:15 and 6:30, but the past two days she even let me sleep until 7:15! It was nice. Let's keep this trend up. (Just for our memories...we experimented with putting foil in one of her windows and putting paintings up to block the other window -- we're cutting edge home decorators, I know. We also put her to bed a bit earlier for nearly a week (6:15-6:30 instead of the usual 7) and worked our way back to the 7 o'clock bedtime.) So far, so good.
