going to work

"Going to work" has been our explanation to Paela for disappearance of her mom or her dad for ages now. Even when it's just down to the basement that Wayne or I went to go work in isolation. She now practices this herself, going off to our bedroom and shutting the door behind me, explaining that she is going to work and will miss me. And then she "reads" her books to herself. I think. I hope.

Aderyn started blowing raspberries and spitting bubbles in the last few days. She thinks she is awfully cute, especially when she entices me to vibrate my lips or tongue with her. She is. I am probably not quite so cute. She smiles anyway.

We have had warm enough days for sidewalk chalk and parks, and for just plain running around in the back yard. In fact, we're tempted to bring our window air conditioner upstairs this week since it's supposed to be 80 most of the week. 80 is really actually quite hot for Boston. Humidity, oh, what joy you are.

Wayne, sadly, has been quite sick for much of the week with a cold. The rest of us have just had minor sniffles. We have a theory that this is because Wayne is an alien and thus escapes the worst of our illnesses, and we his.

Despite being sick, Wayne went to a conference this weekend. Thankfully it was right here on MIT campus, so he didn't have far to go. He seemed to enjoy it quite a lot.

[roflCon was really good and I'm debating coming back for next year. To explain simply, roflCon is a conference discussing and analyzing internet subculture and meme distribution. So, people like Neil Cicierega who made the 'harry potter mysterious ticking noise' video was on a panel, as was the owner of lolCats. While the conference has great potential, the second day of panels were definitely better than most of the first day. There is a recurrent emphasis from many of the attendees on asking panelists how to get internet famous which, as an academic, I'm not all that interested in. I don't care about what the artist of the 'three wolf moon' shirt thinks about her fame, but I do care about historical figures like Tom Jennings (the creator of fidoNet). Overall, there was lots of good material and I couldn't sleep at night because I wasn't used to getting so much information in such a short time. It was also good to see colleagues of mine from California. -wayne]

And, no, Aderyn isn't really sleeping any better than last week. Thanks for asking.
