busy-ness all around

This week was busy at work, and seemed busy at home, while we wrestled with decisions. Wayne's grandpa Madsen passed away at 96 years old, and we tried to decide whether we could get away to the funeral or not. My doctor, of course, thinks I'm much too pregnant for travel, and Wayne worries that his class is incapable of being left unattended (i.e. they won't work at all while he's gone) and since he'll be out later this coming week and probably some when the baby comes.... Anyway, tough decisions all around. We would have loved to have us all be able to go. [This is an oversimplification of the decision process and the complex behind-the-scenes considerations. It is sufficient to say that October is a time of ends and beginnings, most of which happen all at the same time. On a positive note, I have received word of my graduate degree being official and in the mail. --wayne]

At work we were preparing for an alpha test for one of our projects. It was scheduled for Friday, but low and behold the two (yes, only two) days of "testing" proved not to be sufficient to get the project stable enough. Given the research-y state of most things at work, not much (if any) time is given to testing, and no formal tests are really in place for most projects. So Friday morning they made the decision to postpone Alpha another couple of days. Sigh. This is why testing is more important than just two days worth. Anyway, we'll see how alpha goes this week. Beta is scheduled in two weeks, and the real deal is in early December, so we can't postpone much longer. Hopefully we get some good feedback too.

Wayne had a busy week at work too. He had a teacher evaluation class that the director sat in on Tuesday. That went well and he got positive feedback from the experience, even though Wayne said the class didn't have a great day of commenting. However, below average commenting for him turns out to be sufficient/above average for the college.

Wayne and Paela kept busy much of the week. They tried out a "pregymnastics" class the city offers to see what it was like. Paela loved it -- running from activity to activity -- and she asks us to help her back-flip and forward-flip now. We're not sure they'd let her officially enroll this semester still since we missed the deadline, but it's food for thought for next semester at least. They also hit story time and the Drumlin farm again, as well as the eye doctor. This was a follow-up appointment, and the doctor seemed a little less enthused this time about sending Paela for an MRI. She's not terribly worried, but suspects Paela might be seeing better out of one eye than another. She opted to have Paela come back in January, in the hopes that she can get a colleague's opinion and that maybe Paela will be easier to test (hard to know what the young kids are seeing, or whether they're just bored with the games!).

Saturday we all laid low for a bit. It rained much of the day, so we didn't take the two-year photos we'd planned on taking. At least it wasn't snowing like last Sunday!
