wet summer

Martin was at a conference this week in New Hampshire, so Camilla and I took the quick drive across the border to visit him Tuesday afternoon. It would be nice to have more family live so close. We visited the beach of Lake Winnipesaukee. It was a nice area and perhaps we should visit more often, however Cape Cod is closer.

Paela enjoyed the cool weather, but especially the water she could wade in. Had we not stopped her, she would have surely gone deeper than she should have.

We had cheap(er) tickets to the Children's Discovery Museum downtown [and I had the day off! -bec], so on Friday afternoon we parked at Camilla and Victor's house and hopped a train the rest of the way. Paela went nuts in the bubble room and was running in circles with excitement with all the ball experiments.

The Boston hands-on museum is much nicer than the San Jose discovery museum. The exhibits are better taken care of and better planned out. Because we went at just the right time of day, the place wasn't packed with bossy/pushy kids.

Even though the entire week was wet and cold, we lucked out and had a perfect day for a bbq on Saturday. At the last minute, we heard that Ian Davis had moved to Quincy and they had none of their things, so we convinced them to come over and share food. The sun was out and there was a wonderful cool breeze.

We finished our bean bag couch and got to use it with four people. I think we filled it too much and as a result need to be careful about how to sit down. Yet it turned out great: a 600$ bean bag for about 170$.

Another thing which we were reminded of -- but had not yet mentioned -- is how many people in this area already know us. As we had mentioned a few months back, Rebecca learned that one of her friends from BYU is not only a co-worker, but works on the same team with her. Since that time, we have had a few more experiences along that line. We showed up to the Arlington ward to run into one guy from the Ann Arbor singles ward and another guy from my childhood stake. In our current ward, there are two families who were in the Michigan singles ward at the same time I was. Rebecca thinks that I get to play the "small mormon world" game more often than she does, but really I am just trying to make enough connections that we can always have people visiting no matter where we go.
