poontz

It's interesting watching language learning as it develops. It is obvious to me that Paela thinks she is clearly saying more than we think she is saying. The days when "Daddy, <blah blah blah> ketchup" magically transforms into a clear "Daddy, I want more ketchup" are fun. It's like all along she knew what she was saying, and one day we are suddenly privy to knowing what she's known this whole time.

I look forward to the day we will know what "POONTZ!" means. This word pops up in so many different situations, that we really have no clue what she's trying to say. But she says it so energetically! Today she was talking about "slides" and "swings" and "poontz". Then she shifted to talking about "cell phones" and "poontz". But what exactly is poontz? She just gives us a goofy grin if we ask her to point to poontz, though today she quickly pointed to the air above my head, and then next the air above Wayne's head.

So is it a magical beast Paela created? Is it "the things I'm allowed to do"? Is it "watching other kids play"? It's hard to say. Someday we'll know Paela's mind and everything will be clear. Or at least maybe poontz will be clear.
