the dids and did nots

Perhaps we should talk about all the things we didn't do this week. I didn't go to work. Wayne didn't make it to the free culture conference he wanted to go to on Saturday. We didn't make it to the beach. Paela didn't nap at Church again -- I think she is done with Church naps finally. It's asking a lot for a toddler to sit still long enough to sleep. And toddle she does.

We did get a lot of progress on Wayne's ATC project. We did pull out jackets this week for the bay area's "cool" season. We did have a lot of fun family time. We did finish some errands. We did make some progress updating our website's look (no, it's not done yet, but is more functional at least).

With the help of friends, and having some time off myself this week, we have made quite good progress on Wayne's project. We'll both be busy little beavers the next couple of weeks to get the last pieces in place, but we are hopeful the project will come off well. Paela is kind to play nicely quite often so we can even both work at once.

She is working in her own way, of course. Pushing her little car this way and that, learning to back up to get unstuck some of the time. Taking her shirt off sometimes in the night (hopefully closer to morning, but who knows?). Practicing throwing a ball to us. Petting the kitty, oh, so nicely. Petting the kitty not so nicely. And most of all walking. She walks from the window in one room, to the window in a next and back again. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. She is just entralled with moving right now.

For my part, I need to get busy job hunting, but have enjoyed a week of a slightly different pace than normal, helping Wayne and hanging out with Paela. Change can be good. We just need to be patient and trust that things work out in the end. And I need to finish updating my resume some day soon. That too.

Costumes

She is so cute in the monkey costume, but she isn't happy. Maybe she'll change her mind by Halloween. Or you can dress her up as a bunny. Put her in pjs. Make a tail out of yarn (wrap it around a file card lots of time, tie in the middle, and cut the ends) and pin it to the back of the pjs. Put on her a hoodie and make ears out of card stock and pin those to the hoodie. TaDa!! A bunny rabbit. You can also paint some wiskers on with an eyebrow pencil--cheap at the store. Have fun. Kids are cute.

How's it going?

I might be totally smoking something, but won't unemployment insurance cover you in California for like a year? Surely with a little bit of severence you could make it until Wayne is done with school and you go where you life takes you next? Just a thought... (But of course, don't give up the job hunt. And let me know how it goes. My friend at Yahoo says you can send him your resume, if you'd like!) --Alyssa
