virtual pack-rat

I've known about pack-rat tendencies in the Rees family for some time. My response was to carefully comb through my personal effects as often as possible -- usually about once a year (convenient enough since that's about how often I've moved since leaving home after high school) -- and dispose of clothes, memorabilia, and other items that hadn't been used or looked at recently enough. A continual purging process. I'm not perfect at it, but I'm happy with the effort I put into the process for the most part, and happy with the result of less "stuff."

It occurs to me, however, that I don't have the same filtering standards for my digital media. Almost all emails ever sent to or from me are saved (excepting, of course, spam and such obvious "junk"...and computer crashes when we haven't backed up). It's fortunate Wayne handles most of our digital photo sorting/archiving; I'm sure I would keep lots more than he does. I have folders and folders of old school assignments I'm not sure I'll ever clean up...but I want to know they are there! I have folders I never look inside anymore, but I still like seeing that they are there, safe and sound.

That's why it surprised me today to learn that Wayne is using more storage space in Gmail than I am. Who would have thought??
