one man's junk

We didn't pack this week quite as full as the previous several have felt. Saturday, for example, we dubbed "lazy Saturday", and we only cleaned house after sleeping in. We took care of a few errands and took a walk and such, but we didn't "go somewhere" or "have plans." It was nice for a change. Though we already came up with ideas for what to do this coming Saturday, so "lazy Saturday" isn't going to become a regular thing by any means.

Part of what I'm excited about is the freecycle/ebay/craigslist posts we took care of on Saturday. It's nice to get junk cleaned up and moved on to someone who will make better use of it.

FHE was pretty exciting this week -- we got to take a stab at following music with the score in hand. I'd never done anything like it; it'll be fun to do it again and see what else we pick up on. We also got some game playing and socializing in both Sunday evening with the Rocks and Wednesday evening with Kate and Robi. More so, I'd say, than we did at my company family BBQ Thursday night. We didn't see any of the people I work closely enough with to bother introducing Wayne at the BBQ, but that's okay. Maybe next time I'll talk others I see at work into going to these functions.

Since we graduated from the childbirth class the week before, we decided to go to the "Welcome to Pediatrics" class Tuesday evening. Unfortunately, that meant we weren't free to attend an art lecture we learned about at the last minute, and we probably would have learned more at the art lecture...but so it goes. At least we met a pediatrician there we'd feel comfortable going to, who seems to have similar opinions on things as we do from what we can tell. So we did get something out of the night.

Wayne started a new semester on Thursday. It didn't seem as big of a deal this time around to me at least. Maybe he was ready to get back into usual classes after a summer of less structure. In any case, let's hope we didn't sign him up for too much this semester so when we start getting less sleep in October sometime, he'll still be able to keep up with all the exciting things ahead of him.

The saddest news of the week is that our tomato plants finally died. We only saw lot of green leaves and height on them, and tiny buds that never did anything. Maybe our balcony is too cold for them? Our oak trees like it alright out there, as does the parsley. But thyme and the tomatoes died the death. Poor things. Maybe next year we can figure out how to accommodate them.

At least Cold Stone gave us free ice cream that day.
