Second stage of working on these four pieces. I am still struggling with spacial relationships. I'm happier with the latest one I started and the balance between "media saturation" and visual narrative. Need to start putting these in shows and see reactions to them. You might want to visit here to see what these paintings used to look like a month ago.

Re: Phase II
Yea, I was actually thinking of the similarities with Tim Burton when I was viewing them. I was thinking, you know, if Burton saw these, I bet he would really like them- he might want some- but then I thought, I bet Burton has a million artists come to him every day-because he is such an "artistic" director. I don't know though, they really have a quality to them he might like.
Good luck deciding on a digital camera. Big investment- The thing is, for you, I really think it would be an investment, considering your profession.
Re: Phase II
Yeah, it took me a long time and a lot of effort to finally let go of what these paintings previously looked like. I really enjoyed their almost Zen balance. however, these paintings have become a jumbled chaotic mess, and some part of me likes that. As someone who grew up in a culture saturated with media and images, i feel like it's a good way of showing what I know.
the red dude is cool, i have found some great images from a website called strangedolls.com, where some craft-artist makes scary dolls. i just think that they translate well into these ambigious contour drawings of figures and "tim burton"-esque images. We had a discussion about my work with my professor and he brought up those similarities. I never intended them, but now that he mentions it, i remember how much i used to love the imagery of early tim burton films.
I personally prefer the pikachu image that i have started to put in some of the more recent pictures. i can't wait to show those. i'm sorry that those last pictures i took were so bad. rebecca and i are considering buying a new digital camera with better resolution. we'll see if we dare bite the bullet.
Re: Phase II
Hey Wayne
I like these revised paintings more. The increase in color, and the multiple levels, a product of you doing it at differen times, I think, makes it jump out. It also makes it more accessable, and personable, I think.
My favorite, I think, is the red dude.
See you in a week or so!
