social experiences

The week started off slow. It's summer, what can you expect? Also I can't really remember what actually happened early on.

I think the chip-in farm may or may not have been visited. Story time may or may not have happened. I am pretty sure we did not pick up library passes this week, so that means no drumlin farm or zoo. But what else?

Here is what I do remember: at work, Tuesday and Wednesday were longer than normal days (for me) as we had a social "experiment". We set up two competing "teams" to use the software we've been building and let them loose to see who can solve the problem in the allotted time. There are two teams, because people get into it more when they know there's a competition, even if it is just for a two dollar trophy. It went well and data was collected and it was fun to be a part of. But it also meant that Thursday I was exhausted.

Friday, Wayne called to tell me that Paela made a "friend" at the park. They noticed a little girl about Paela's age shadowing Paela. A small nudge from Wayne ("tell her your name and ask hers"), and it was "hi, my name is Paela. What's yours?" And they spent the rest of their park time giggling and racing to the swings to swing on their tummies and racing down the slides and generally having fun together. Hooray!

Friday was a social experience for Paela and Aderyn together, as our friend Cami was our personal hero and watched the two of them while we went to see the movie Inception. We're told things went well and Aderyn just asked to be held a handful of times (and seemed content to be held by Cami). We came back to Paela giggling and playing with Calvin swinging the baby swing this way and that. Hopefully the social goodness will hold for future date nights, because it was definitely nice.

And Saturday, Camilla and Victor and Cameron joined us for a pool outing on the base. The water was colder than last time, but everyone seemed to have fun! Splash, splash!

Not so fun, but we also saw the dentist just week. Just a cleaning, because it's free so why not?
